The 200-05103-45 Wind Monitor (Alpine) offers the performance and rugged construction of the standard Wind Monitor with the added benefit of an ice-resistant coating on external surfaces. Propeller diameter is slightly reduced from our standard model to minimize vibration at high speeds. It promises improved survivability for the most severe wind measuring applications.

The wind speed sensor is a four blade helicoid propeller. Propeller rotation produces an AC sine wave voltage signal with frequency directly proportional to wind speed. Slip rings and brushes are not used, resulting in improved reliability and lower cost. The signal is available as a raw output, voltage output or current output, depending on model chosen.

The wind direction sensor is a rugged yet lightweight vane with a sufficiently low aspect ratio to assure good fidelity in fluctuating wind conditions. Vane position is sensed by a precision conductive plastic potentiometer located in a sealed chamber. With a known excitation voltage applied to the potentiometer, the output signal is directly proportional to azimuth angle. The signal is available as a raw output (in which case a regulated excitation voltage must be supplied by the monitoring equipment), or as a voltage output or current output, depending on model chosen.

The instrument is made of UV stabilized plastic with stainless steel and anodized aluminum fittings. External housing surfaces are coated with a specially formulated, ice-resistant coating to improve performance in harsh alpine conditions. The all-black color scheme further enhances ice-shedding performance of the sensor. Precision grade, stainless steel ball bearings are used.

The instrument mounts on a standard one-inch IPS pipe with an outside diameter of 34 mm (1.34"). A mounting orientation ring assures correct realignment of the wind direction reference when the instrument is removed for maintenance. Transient protection and cable terminations are in a convenient junction box on the mounting post (cable sold separately).
