The 240-SP Silicon-Cell Pyranometers are calibrated to measure total shortwave radiation. Amplified versions are available in 2.5 volt, 5 volt, and 4-20 mA outputs.
The 240-SP series pyranometers compare favorably with Class C (previously known as second class) standard pyranometers, but at a fraction of the cost. They have been used successfully for over 20 years in many different field measurement situations, including agricultural, meteorological, and solar energy applications.
Featuring a fast response time of less than one second, they are cosine-corrected to get accurate readings even if the sun is at a low zenith level, have a self-cleaning head, and are designed to be rugged for continuous outdoor use in all climates.
The 240-SP-230 All Season Heated Pyranometer has a 0.2 watt heater to keep water (liquid and frozen) off the sensor and minimize errors caused by dew, frost, rain, or snow blocking the optical path.
The new 240-SP-420 Smart Pyranometer can be connected directly to a computer for taking spot measurements or graphing and datalogging real-time shortwave radiation using the included software. The sensor can also act as a stand-alone shortwave radiation datalogger by simply connecting it to any standard 5 Vdc USB power plug. Internal memory within the sensor head is capable of storing 10,000 user-specified periodic measurements that can be downloaded as a CSV file to a computer for analysis. Consult NovaLynx for more information.
The pyranometers can be secured to the 240-AL-100 Leveling Plate by means of a threaded insert in the bottom of the sensor. Three bolts assist in leveling the plate. The 240-153-SP Tower Mount facilitates mounting the sensor to a mast or pipe.
Each sensor (except the USB model) includes an IP68 marine-grade stainless-steel cable connector 30 cm from head to simplify sensor removal and replacement for maintenance and recalibration. (The sensor can be purchased without the connector, but delivery will be longer and the wire colors will be different.)
